CompeteFor Procurement system
CompeteFor is a free service that enables businesses to compete for contract opportunities linked to major public and private sector buying organisations.
Following its successful use by the London 2012 authorities and their supply chains as part of the London 2012 Games, CompeteFor continues to be used in the supply chain to transform the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and by other public sector buying organisations such as Crossrail, as part of their procurement process. In turn, smaller sub-contractors of these larger organisations use CompeteFor to make their business opportunities widely available.
CompeteFor acts as an electronic brokerage service, matching buyers with potential suppliers. It has a particular focus on opportunities in the supply chains of major organisations, which are often not visible to smaller businesses, although they usually offer smaller and more achievable packages of work.
Case Study
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games offers a wealth of opportunities for businesses, large and small, across the whole of the UK.
One local company that is benefiting is the Ashley Wilde Group, which manufactures and markets official collections of London 2012 bed linens, throws, curtains, towels and cushions.
A
shley Wilde were successful in winning the license to produce home textiles for the Games with products previously available from the London 2012 shop.
The contract was posted on the CompeteFor system, a brokerage service between buyers and potential suppliers. CompeteFor offers businesses the opportunity to find out about business opportunities for London 2012 and provides access to business support services.
Robert Goldwater, Finance Director for the Ashley Wilde Group, said ‘I was made aware of CompeteFor at a business breakfast facilitated by “Hertfordshire is Ready For Winners”, the county’s strategic group for London 2012, which included a presentation from Business Link about CompeteFor.’
‘I discussed the potential opportunities with colleagues and how it would fit in with our current business strategies and, after deliberation, we felt that registering on CompeteFor would be a positive step. At this stage Ashley Wilde did not have a significant experience with a procurement process of this type, so we utilised the Business Link support available to ensure that we were business ready for CompeteFor. We found that preparing in advance for registration made the process more efficient and relatively straightforward.’
‘When the home textile license was advertised on CompeteFor, we completed an analysis of whether the opportunity was appropriate for us and, with our extensive experience of licensed products we felt that it was worth bidding for.’
‘We now have products in the London 2012 shop and look forward to producing more exciting products in the near future.’
