Get involved and be inspired!

A volunteering scheme inspired by London 2012 has been launched in Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Volunteering is a joint venture between Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners (HRFW) and the Volunteer Centres Hertfordshire.

Recently a group of dedicated voluntary coordinators were recruited to bridge the gap between local events and volunteers inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Coordinators are now in place at volunteer centres across Hertfordshire, poised to help make next year a year of celebration in the county. The coordinators are armed with guidance on how to make events Games inspired, advice on branding, promotion, extending the reach of events, signposting to funding opportunities and also to manage events taking place in their locality. Individuals or groups wanting to get involved in Games inspired events and activities should also register for HRFW Volunteering at their local volunteer centre and then the coordinators can get to work matching volunteer opportunities to Games inspired volunteers.

Lauren Blowman, the HRFW Volunteering Coordinator at the Volunteer Centre Dacorum, said: “Having the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to London in 2012 is literally a once in a lifetime experience, and one that I am incredibly excited about!
"I hope to involve people from all walks of life and aim to develop an extensive pool of volunteers who can easily be deployed in Games inspired activities and events throughout Dacorum.”

Chairman of the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Board, Derrick Ashley, said: “Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Volunteering is an important part of the Partnership's strategy to achieve it's ambition of closer and healthier communities. This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for the London 2012 Games to reach the entire county and I hope that Hertfordshire’s residents are inspired and speak to their local HRFW Volunteering Coordinator.”

Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Volunteering has been granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme. The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said: “We want to use the power of the Games to inspire change. The Inspire programme is recognising the work our partners all round the UK are doing to help us achieve this vision now – less than one year away from the start of the Games. I congratulate everyone involved in Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Volunteering for securing the Inspire mark and wish you every success with your work.”
