The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has advanced its plans for transporting athletes, team officials, technical officials and the media during the London 2012 Games with confirmation of its bus and coach providers - and five of the companies are based in Hertfordshire.
Following a competitive tender process through the CompeteFor procurement portal, LOCOG has appointed 44 contractors from all over the UK and Ireland who will provide over 1,250 coaches and buses together with drivers which will be used at all London 2012 venues across the UK. Companies will provide from two to over 500 buses or coaches. Of the 44 contractors eight are from the Eastern Region and, of this eight, five contractors are from Hertfordshire.
The five successful Hertfordshire contractors are:
1. Cozy Travel based in Letchworth
2. Golden Boy Coaches based in Hoddesdon
3. South Mimms Travel based in Welwyn Garden City
4. Sullivan Bus and Coach based in Potters Bar
5. University Bus based in Hatfield
LOCOG Commercial Director Chris Townsend said: “This is the culmination of a significant and complex piece of procurement work and we had a very competitive tender process. What we’ve ended up with are companies from every nation and region providing some buses or coaches – from the traditional family owned small companies to the large national bus firms – all coming together to help us make London 2012 as successful as possible.”
Herts 2012 Ambassador John Fuller of the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Partnership added: “Hertfordshire has maintained the accolade of the highest percentage of businesses registered on the CompeteFor procurement portal in the region. We are proud of this and want to keep the level of engagement up. This latest announcement shows that there are still contracts to be won and Hertfordshire companies are being awarded them.”
LOCOG will now be working throughout 2011 with its appointed operators to develop and confirm the operational plans for the summer of 2012.
Hertfordshire businesses have been quick out of the blocks to win an estimated £30 million worth of London 2012 supply contracts. The latest figures show that 108 contracts have been secured by companies in Hertfordshire all advertised via the CompeteFor system.
Businesses in Hertfordshire interested in registering on the CompeteFor procurement portal can attend one of Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners award-winning Business Breakfast sessions, ‘Win Business Gold’. The next events will be held in May and late June.
