The route the iconic Olympic Flame will take through Hertfordshire on the weekend of 7/8 July is announced today (Monday 19 March) providing the perfect opportunity for families, friends and communities to plan their celebrations.
The Olympic flame will arrive in Waltham Cross on the morning of Saturday 7 travelling through the town and on to Hertford, Ware and Bishop’s Stortford before heading out of the county in the afternoon.
The following day – 8 July - it returns to Hertfordshire arriving in Letchworth mid morning and travelling to Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead.

The site gives street-by-street details and proposed start times for when the Olympic Flame will travel through each Hertfordshire town. Residents can check out the nearest location to see the iconic procession.
Derrick Ashley, Chair of the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Partnership said: “The London 2012 Olympic Games brings a wealth of excitement to the county and the torch relay provides opportunities for communities to get together and celebrate not only the Games, but to show support for the achievements of local people chosen to run with the Olympic flame.
“We are fortunate that the torch is visiting ten towns in the county, giving plenty of cause for celebration. All Hertfordshire residents will be within a few miles of the flame at some point during the weekend celebrations."
Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: “Today we bring the Olympic Torch Relay to life. The Flame symbolises the Olympic spirit and its journey around the UK will bring the excitement of the Games to our streets. Now people know the route the Olympic Flame will be carried along they can start planning how they might celebrate and make it Hertfordshire’s ‘moment to shine.”
An average of 115 Torchbearers a day will carry the Olympic Flame during its 70 day journey around the UK starting at Land’s End, Cornwall on the morning of 19 May. It will travel an estimated 8,000 miles before it arrives at the Olympic Stadium for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony on 27 July, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
