The Olympic team from St Kitts and Nevis arrived in Hertfordshire on Monday to start their pre-Games training camp.
The team of seven, due to be met by a further three next week, is based in Watford, training at Everyone Active Watford Leisure Centre Woodside and staying at the Mercure Watford Hotel.
The St Kitts and Nevis team commenced their training on Monday morning and were welcomed by the elected Mayor and John Fuller, Hertfordshire Ambassador for the 2012 Games and the team at Everyone Active.
The team is due to stay in Watford until they transfer to the Athletes Village in the Olympic Park on 21 July. During their stay in Watford the team will visit Harvey Road School in Croxley Green who have raised £1,600 for the team through fundraising activities at the school.
John Fuller Herts 2012 Ambassador said, ''Welcoming our first pre-games overseas Team from St Kitts and Nevis for three weeks of training was a great event on Monday. With medallists from the World, and Commonwealth Games including multi-medallist Kim Collins this team has real prospects in London 2012 and it is our privilege to be hosting them here in Hertfordshire”.
Keith Heyliger, Team Leader and Chef de Mission of the St Kitts and Nevis Olympic team said, “We are grateful for the support of Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners, the Council and Everyone Active throughout this process and hopefully we can achieve some good results at the Games by using the fantastic facilities at Watford for the final conditioning training”.
